Our Adventure in Telluride

Telluride Colorado’s best-kept secret.

Getting to Telluride you have to fly into Montrose it is the closes airport from there it is about an hour ride on the telluride express. This gave us plenty of time to talk with some of the locals on the ride. We meet a woman that lives in Telluride on the bus ride and between her and the driver we learned a lot about the area. Local places to eat, shops to visit, and sites to see. Our Hotel was the Mountainside Inn located at the base of the mountain. Beautiful views and walking distance to the free shuttles that will take you all around telluride.

History of smuggling and Robberies

Telluride is the County seat of San Miguel County. A former mining camp Situated in a box canyon. Named for the gold telluride minerals found in other parts of Colorado. A little know interesting fact in June 1889 Butch Cassidy before becoming part of the wild bunch robbed the San Miguel Valley Bank leaving the bank with $24,580.00 this was his first major crime. Telluride also became notorious in the drug counterculture for being a drop point for Mexican smugglers and a favorite place for wealthy importers to enjoy downtime. The town was featured in the Glenn Frey song “Smugglers Blues” from Miami Vice.

Telluride & Mountain Village Free Gondola

The gondola offers free, seasonal transportation from Telluride to Mountain Village. The ride on the Gondola provides views of the San Juan Mountains and a birds eye view of both towns. On a clear day you can see all the way to La Sal Range in Utah. ?The cars offer racks for ski and snowboard transportation in the winter and racks for bikes in the summer.

Telluride offers a variety of activities during the winter. If you are not a skier like us, there are over 30 hiking trails, Dog Sledding, Fly Fishing Snowmobile tours, Horseback Riding, Fat Bike Rides, Ice Climbing, Snow biking, and many more activities. Here is a list of some of the websites I checked out.

Snow Biking Experience

Turned out to be our adventure on this trip. How hard can it be! So we find out that you have to take lessons and get a license to snowbike so Early on our second day in Telluride we headed up to the Village to rent snow boots, google, and helmets for our lesson. We met up with our instructor (we were the only two that signed up for such a crazy sport) and our adventure begins. She explains how we need to lean and zigzag down the hill and everything was going pretty good. I had a tendency to lean a little too far and land on my side. But other than that I thought we were doing great. On Our last jont down the hill to the ski lift Ronnie took off first and all of a sudden his snowbike went up in the air and he was flat on his back and not moving. The instructor and I raced down the hill to him. When he flipped he hit his head and lay there for a few moments before getting up. Needless to say, we did not get our license.

We hope to one day return to Telluride and enjoy the other seasons and many activities offered throughout the year. However, I think snow biking is definitely not on our list to revisit, but you may love it as many others do!!! For now, we will say stay warm and enjoy life and all it has to offer.

Happy New Year. Winston here from Iowa. I just wanted to see if you need an extra hand in the way of site upkeep/tweaking, adding emails to your newsletters from my targeted database (I have millions of them that you can use). We could even setup email campaigns for lead generation emailing at no cost to you to send out. Unique blog post material, extra traffic by getting others to start sharing your site across their own social media accounts, social media management, optimizing the site, create videos, etc also help quite a bit. I can even post ads in every capital city in the country on CraigsList for any one of their 500 categories for some immediate traffic.

I have quite a few ways I can set all of this up and do this for you as the new year kicks into gear. I don’t mean to impose, I was just curious. I’ve been doing this for some time and was just curious if you needed an extra hand.

Stay Safe,

Winston

I just wondering by thinking of the place you are skyed, hence wandering to watch some pictures of flowing rivers during spring. Colorado is always my dream place to visit for fly fishing , do not know when my wish would be fulfilled
